At Birmingham Metropolitan College we want to make sure that everyone is able to study regardless of their financial position. If you join us on a full or part-time course we have a range of support packages aimed to take the stress out of study. If you are aged 16 years and over you can apply to the Learner Support Fund and the College’s Bursary Fund for assistance with a number of course-related expenses.
The level of support will depend on your individual circumstances.
Students Aged 16-18
Research shows that students who attend their classes are more likely to do well. Therefore, if you are eligible for one of our bursaries, we will also reward you with travel support when your attendance is over 85%.
We offer a £30 weekly allowance called the Guaranteed Bursary for vulnerable students on top of the travel and equipment support. This support package is worth up to £1200 per year. To qualify for our Guaranteed Bursary you will have to meet specific criteria, please speak to our Student Services representatives for details.
We also offer a second tier of bursary scheme for those aged 16-18 whose household income is below £25,000. For this you will receive a travel award each term and depending on your individual circumstances you will also get help with buying equipment, help towards the cost of course related trips and help with the cost of kit or uniform.
Students aged 19+
We know that coming back to study after a gap can be daunting and we want to support you every step of the way. So, if you are over 19 with a household income £21,000 or less a year or if you are in receipt of means tested benefits we want to help. We know that transport can be expensive so, if you are travelling to college for 3 days or more a week, we give you a travel award each term and if that's not enough may also be able to pay your course fees and give you up to 50% of your equipment costs. Now that’s encouraging.
If childcare costs are standing in your way don't worry. At BMet we want to help. We pay up to £40 per day to a maximum of four days for your first child.
This financial package is so good it won’t be around forever. There is a cap on the amount of people we can fund, so first come first served.
Terms & conditions apply, you must be studying an SFA funded course or be in receipt of an Advanced Learning Loan to access bursary support. Speak to a member of your local student services team for further details.
