A Level Computing is a Computer Science oriented course consisting of a major software engineering/programming component using languages such as Visual Basic.NET and C#.NET. You will study the purpose and characteristics of a range of computing applications and the characteristics of computer systems. You will also learn how to analyse a problem and identify the parts which are appropriate for a computer-based solution. So if you enjoy problem solving and have an interest in computers this is the course for you.
You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C including maths and English, and must have maths at a B or GCSE Computing at a B grade.
Delivery and Assessment
This course is assessed through a series of exams. There will be a combination of long and short answer papers.
This course will prepare you for a career in a specialist IT area such as Software Engineering, Programming, Engineering or Systems Analysis. Alternatively you may wish to continue your studies and complete a complete related degree.
