The AAT is the UK’s leading qualification and membership body for accounting and finance staff. It is internationally recognised and the AAT’s current membership is over 120,000 worldwide. The Level 3 is the second level of the AAT Accounting qualification. It introduces you to more complex Financial Accounting tasks such as incomplete records, accounting for different types of organisation, the preparation final accounts and accounting for indirect taxation. It also introduces the basic building blocks of Management Accounting, Marginal Costing and Absorption Costing. In addition to these accounting units you will also study spread sheets and ethics, essential knowledge and skills for an effective accounting technician.
You must hold AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting and be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge of double entry bookkeeping. Direct entry into Level 3 may be possible providing you have substantial practical accounting experience and are able to demonstrate this at interview.
Delivery and Assessment
The AAT is assessed by computer based exams and computer based projects for each of the accounting units. Additionally you will complete a synoptic assessment along with Spreadsheets and Accounting Ethics.
The AAT level 3 qualification will allow you to progress to the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting Level 4 and then subsequently you may apply for full Technician status once you have provided a portfolio of practical experience from the work place. Should you chose to go onto higher education AAT Diploma in Accounting Level 3 will often allow direct entry to many Accounting degrees.
