Birmingham Metropolitan College (BMet)

BMet is home to thousands of bright and enthusiastic students and talented and experienced staff.  We are passionate about providing the qualifications and training that local employers and communities need.  Our goal is to prepare all our students for the world we work and live in, both now and in years to come.

We are a large general FE college with approximately 12,000 learners and three main campuses based in Birmingham: James Watt College at Great Barr, Matthew Boulton College in central Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield College with a satellite centre in Erdington.

A third of our learners are aged 16-18 and are on full time programmes, and most of our adult learners are on part-time courses and professional development courses.

Our population reflects the cultural diversity of the City.

The broad curriculum offer includes: A Levels, T Levels and vocational qualifications, apprenticeships, access to higher education, part-time adult professional development, entry level courses as well as full and part-time degree level study programmes.  BMet is focused on ensuring student success and its curriculum is shaped to respond to employer demand.

The college’s higher education provision (across all three colleges) is supported by three regional university partners who have worked with us for many years to provide first class opportunities. Together they continue to look at ways to develop courses, so they are always industry relevant. HE courses are run in partnership with well-established universities: Birmingham City University, University of Wolverhampton and University of Worcester.

The college also has a very strong sporting offer at Sutton Coldfield College as well as sporting academies available to all BMet students.

Our annual turnover is around £46 million.
