Apprenticeship summary
What will the apprentice be doing?
- Ensuring the correct level of watering to all stock across the whole nursery site, including weekends and bank holidays
- Upkeep of irrigation system and growing structures
- Assisting with incoming free stock for the cash & carry unit, quality checking, standing down, ensuring that stock is in the correct area depending on the stock’s specific and seasonal requirements and is correctly labelled
- Carrying out cultural requirements, i.e., weeding, feeding, pruning, spraying tying etc. of stock
What training will the apprentice undertake and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- The successful apprentice will complete the Level 2 Horticulture or Landscape Construction Apprenticeship Standard including the following qualifications;
- (Core) Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (Ofqual registered) minimum 1-day course
- (Horticulture Operative) Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Pesticides OR City and Guilds Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides
- (Horticulture Operative) Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticide Using Hand Held Equipment OR City and Guilds Level 2 Award In The Safe Application of Pesticides Using Pedestrian Hand Held Equipment
- (Landscaping construction) City and Guilds NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in the Safe Use of Abrasive Wheel Machines or Lantra Abrasive Wheel Machines Course
- Functional Skills in English and maths for those who require it
- How training will be delivered is to be confirmed, but the usual method is by college attendance
