Childcare and Education (EYE) New Technical Diploma Level 3

Get ready to be a great teacher! This Level 3 Childcare and Education prepares the learner for a career as an Early Years Educator, working with children aged up to 5 years.

The Level 3 Certificate in Childcare and Education is studied in year 1 with progression on to the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) in year 2. The Diploma will enable you to gain the knowledge and experience that will allow you to work with children from birth to 5 years. 

You will study a variety of units including child development from conception to seven years, children’s health and well-being, understanding children’s additional needs, supporting emergent literacy and mathematics, reflective practice for professional development amongst others. 

You will have access to real work environments attending placement for two days per week, as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

* Courses are free for 16-18s. Students aged 19 or over could be charged fees and is subject to a fee assessment. Learners on benefits in the majority of cases courses are also free. Fee assessments are completed at enrolment.

Course Length: 35 Weeks

You should be at least 16 years old, with five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) and above to include English and maths. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks will be required.

All units are internally assessed using a range of methods and are graded A*-D.  An external holistic controlled assessment is completed in year 1 (certificate) and again in year two (diploma).  Learners will also attend a work place setting for two days a week and will be assessed on their professional practice.

You can progress to higher education or  into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors such as:

  • Early Years Educator (Diploma only)
  • Practitioner in day nurseries
  • Practitioner in nursery schools
  • Practitioner in reception classes in primary schools
  • Pre-school worker
  • Home based childcare
  • Nanny

Unit 14 Professional partnerships in early years

Unit 16 Professional Practice Portfolio and Controlled Assessment are studied across both years
