If you’re looking for a trade and working in construction, then the
Construction Gateway course is the best place to start. Over the period of the
year you will learn skills in bricklaying, plastering, carpentry and property
maintenance. At the end you will be able to choose your level 2 course and move onto the
trade you like best and develop into a trained construction
operative.

trades person but also have additional skills to use and develop in the
workplace. The course is designed for those who know what trade they want and those who
don’t. It is a great way to gain experience and develop into a highly trained
individual.

* Courses are free for 16-18s. Students aged 19 or over could be charged fees and is subject to a fee assessment. Learners on benefits in the majority of cases courses are also free. Fee assessments are completed at enrolment.
Course Length: 35 Weeks
You will need a minimum grade 3 GCSE in English & maths, plus 2 GSCEs at grade E/3. Learners must be able to follow instructions and have a willingness to work. You will be required to attend an interview.
You will sit practical assessments for each unit and build a portfolio of evidence. Units are assessed through friendly, motivated and interesting tasks, which are internally assessed.
After successfully completing this course you can progress to a level 2 course in your chosen construction trade. Alternatively, you can go onto an apprenticeship or start employment.
