Engineering Diploma Level 3

This Level 3 Engineering Diploma is ideal for learners who want to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in electrical and mechanical engineering. Equivalent to three A Levels, it’s a great pathway to higher education or a career in the engineering industry.

Course overview

In Year 1, you’ll study a broad range of subjects across mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering—earning a qualification equivalent to 1.5 A Levels.

In Year 2, you’ll build on this foundation to achieve an Extended Diploma worth 180 credits, equivalent to 3 A Levels.

What this course covers

Entry Requirements

You’ll need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English. A Level 2 Diploma in Engineering (Merit or Distinction) and a school/college report showing excellent attendance (90%+), punctuality, and behaviour are also required.

Progression Opportunities

Progress to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering with a minimum grade of MM and 90% attendance, or apply for an engineering apprenticeship.

Delivery And Assessment

Assessment is coursework-based with some in-class tasks. You’ll complete research, analysis, evaluation, and mathematical calculations. Each unit is graded as Pass, Merit, or Distinction. You’ll need notebooks, pens, a scientific calculator, and drawing equipment (mobile phone calculators aren’t allowed).
