Metal Inert Gas Welding Award Level 1

The course will allow you to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the engineering sector.

You will learn how to produce beads on plate in the PA flat position, produce a lap fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position, produce a tee fillet weld in the PA flat position, produce a tee fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position, produce a corner weld in the PA flat position and learn about the process and health & safety requirements for metal inert gas (MIG) welding.

* Courses are free for 16-18s. Students aged 19 or over could be charged fees and is subject to a fee assessment. Learners on benefits in the majority of cases courses are also free. Fee assessments are completed at enrolment.

Course Length: 10 - 13 Weeks

There are no formal entry requirements. Enthusiasm and a determination to succeed will be an advantage.

You will be assessed by observations of your practical skills.

On completion of this qualification you may progress into employment or onto a level 2 qualification, like the Award in Welding Skills or the Diploma in Engineering. You may also be interested in taking an award in another type of welding at Level 1.
