Politics A Level

This course explores political and social issues, current affairs and how decisions affecting society are made. You will gain a critical understanding of how UK democracy works, how it could potentially be improved and analyse the views and ideologies of different political parties, individuals and groups.

The first year focuses on British politics, while in the second year you will study global politics and different political ideas. Politics will help you make more sense of developments in the UK and internationally, whilst stimulating you to think critically and consider different points of view, also examining the political ideologies behind our political systems, drawing upon both historical and contemporary events.

* Courses are free for 16-18s. Students aged 19 or over could be charged fees and is subject to a fee assessment. Learners on benefits in the majority of cases courses are also free. Fee assessments are completed at enrolment.

Course Length: 34 Weeks

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above in academic subjects, including GCSE Maths & GCSE English Language.

This two-year course is entirely assessed by written examination at the end of two years of study, covering all content covered over the two years of study.

Politics is highly regarded by universities who appreciate the critical-thinking skills you will develop. The skills and knowledge you learn in politics are suited for a range of careers, such as journalism and the media, the legal professions, teaching, management, the public sector and social work.
