Public Services Higher National Certificate/Diploma

This course will appeal to anyone who is either considering a career in the uniformed public services or who aspires to being involved in a management role in a public services-related career. Upon successful completion you would be considered for advanced entry onto a relevant degree.

This course looks in-depth at the skills required in the management of the public services, whether this is within uniformed or non-uniformed public services, e.g. Armed Forces, Emergency Services, Customs and Excise or the Home Office. Should you want to join the Armed Forces as an officer, or consider any of the other uniformed or non-uniformed public services, then this course will enhance your teamwork and leadership skills and set you up with the confidence and personal development to attain your goals.

You will be introduced to all aspects of public service work and at the end of this course, you should be able to make an informed judgement on your choice of career.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

UCAS Tariff Points: 48 points

The tariff points can be made up of:

  • A Levels (GCE and VCE): 2 A Levels at Grade D
  • BTEC Extended Diploma: Grade PPP
  • BTEC Diploma: Grade MP
  • Access to HE: Grade P45

Minimum number of GCSEs at Grade C or above: 1

which must include: GCSE English: Grade C or 4

Are Level 2 equivalents accepted?: Yes

You will be assessed through coursework, assignments, presentations, practical sessions and projects.

After completing this course you may decide to continue with your studies and top up to a degree. Alternatively you may wish to choose from careers with the Police, Fire Service, Armed Forces (officer level), Revenue and Customs officer or the Civil Service.
