Sport & Exercise Sciences Diploma Level 3

The One-Year BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science is intended for those who want to continue their education and aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the sport and exercise science sector.

This qualification is wide-ranging and equivalent in size to 1.5 A Levels, and can be used to progress to the Extended Diploma in the second-year of a study programme. Students who wish to take this qualification will have successfully completed a Level 2 programme of study with GCSEs (preferably English, maths, science & PE/sport) and potentially some vocational subjects.

Of the six units studied, four are internally assessed and two are externally assessed. Therefore assessment is made up of approximately 67% internally assessed work (projects, coursework, work books, research, presentations etc) and 33% externally assessed by Edexcel in the form of examinations and set tasks.

* Courses are free for 16-18s. Students aged 19 or over could be charged fees and is subject to a fee assessment. Learners on benefits in the majority of cases courses are also free. Fee assessments are completed at enrolment.

Course Length: 35 Weeks

You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, maths and science. It is preferable that applicants will have GCSE PE / BTEC Sport.

This qualification is primarily designed to support progression to the Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Sciences in year two. Following the successful completion of this could then lead to employment or further study at university.

Additionally the transferable knowledge, understanding and skills will give you an advantage in applying for entry level roles or ‘school leaver’ industry training programmes and Higher Apprenticeships in areas such as sport and fitness training, coaching, and sports performance research.

  • Coaching for Performance and Fitness
  • Field and Laboratory-based Fitness Testing
  • Functional Anatomy
