BMet and Boldmere St Michaels WFC partnership kick starts student sporting success

Three BMet College students are now reaching their goals and scoring their way to glory, through a rewarding partnership with Boldmere St Michaels WFC (Women’s Football Club).

The rising female athletes, who are part of the college’s WFC academy alongside studying further education courses at BMet’s Sutton Coldfield College, made their senior level debut with the National Division 1 team just before Christmas.

Chloe, a level 3 Sport student scored her first senior goal in the county cup match against Coventrians LFC on the 19th December 2021 and Paige, a level 2 NVQ Activity Leadership student was in goal and kept a clean sheet. The BMet players sporting prowess contributed to Boldmere St Michaels WFC  10-0 win.

Boldmere St Michaels WFC/ BMet Sutton Coldfield College team captain Katie, who also played against Coventrians LFC said: “I would like to say thank you to Sutton Coldfield College and to Simon Noakes who is the Head Coach of the college team, as well as the senior team at Boldmere St Michaels.

“Being a part of the college programme, has allowed me to express myself through playing football and has allowed for managers like Simon to see my progress as a player.

“I’ve been given a chance to make my senior team debut and gradually become involved with the team through the season. These opportunities have allowed me to build and improve in both my physical ability and my confidence both on and off the pitch.”

Boldmere St Michaels WFC play in the FA Women’s National League Division 1 Midlands, which is Tier 4 of the women’s football playing pyramid. They are currently 4th in the table.

The players progression to the Boldmere Women’s senior team, has been possible due to their dedication to training and playing for the college. BMet Head Coach, Simon Noakes, has been observing their development and potential since September.

Simon said: “We are really pleased with how well the players have adapted to this new partnership, with the commitment from the club providing excellent facilities and with the college promoting the partnership – enabling us to go from strength to strength!”

BMet Sutton Coldfield College women’s manager Katryna Cresswell-Lane added: “Although, the partnership is in its infancy for the women’s side, we already have an established partnership with the men’s programme at youth level.

“The commitment by the college to support players with their sport and academic development, alongside clubs’ attitude for striving for professional status, gives young players a real opportunity to challenge themselves in an elite environment.

“This can only happen when both parties work together, and this is clearly seen through our partnership with Boldmere St Michaels FC.”
