BMet Principal Joins Cross-Sector Leaders in Pledge for an Anti-Racist Region

In a historic show of unity, leaders from across Birmingham’s public, private, educational and community sectors have signed an Anti-Racist Pledge today (Wednesday 30 October).

The pledge was signed at the Birmingham Race Impact Group Biannual Summit titled What’s Changed?

Among those pledging their support was BMet Principal and CEO, Pat Carvalho, joining a panel of leaders from Birmingham City Council, West Midlands Combined Authority, and Birmingham City University, among others.

As part of the pledge, each leader acknowledged the words of Angela Y. Davis: “In a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist; we must be anti-racist.”

Pat Carvalho expressed her commitment to the cause, stating: “Education is at the heart of change.

“At BMet, we are dedicated to fostering a community where every individual feels valued and respected. By joining forces with leaders across our region, we’re taking a powerful step towards a more inclusive, equitable future for all.”

This collective pledge marks a pivotal moment for the region, as leaders work together to combat racism and promote inclusivity across all sectors.

Earlier this year the college teamed up with BRIG and South and City College to host an anti-racist festival.
