BMet students celebrated for “Being Brilliant” at special awards ceremony at Aston Villa FC
High achieving, talented and resilient students at BMet were rewarded last night (20th June) at a special awards ceremony.
This is the first time that students from BMet’s James Watt College, Matthew Boulton College, Sutton Coldfield College and two satellite centres at the Botanical Gardens and Erdington Skills Centre, were collectively celebrated at the ‘BMet BE BRILLIANT Awards.’
The event took place Aston Villa Football Club with 150 students, family, and staff in attendance.
Learners studying a range of vocational, A Level, apprenticeship, GCSE, foundation learning and adult courses were recognised for their accomplishments and successes.
The Be Brilliant Awards also shone a light on students who have demonstrated brilliance, novelty, resilience, leadership, integrity, appreciation, and teamwork.
Speaking of her double award win for Childcare and Early Years and Leadership, Harinder said:
“I feel so proud of myself for what I have achieved, and it means a lot to know that my hard work has been noticed and that I have made a positive difference to BMet.
One award win would have meant so much to me but to receive two, is the icing on the cake and a great end to the academic year.
BMet has so many great opportunities for existing and prospective students, and I am glad to be a part of it!”
Aahil, who also won two awards – for Novel and Interaction Brilliance expressed: “I feel amazing and so thankful to those who encourage me and who nominated me. My family shared the experience with me also, which made it even more positive.
“It is the first time BMet has done something like this, so to be a part of it was great. Everyone seemed so connected and there was such a positive vibe.”
Other awards presented on the night included the Principal’s Choice Award, Sportsman/woman of the Year and Work Experience (WEX) Project and Company Partner of the Year – given to Roxanne Blackwood at NYMF Couture.
Hosted by BMet Curriculum Director, Jason Allen and Progress Learning Coach, David Brooks, the action-packed night, included inspiring speeches from BMet Law Alumni and founder of the ‘Nightingale Rights Initiative,’ Avaia Nightingale-Williams, former BMet IT teacher and founder of digital training provider ‘Lead Ahead’, Telvinder Singh and BMet Sports Alumni and GB Olympian and England Rugby International, Heather Fisher.
There were also fantastic performances from BMet’s Sutton Coldfield College’s dance, singing and music students.
BMet Principal and CEO, Pat Carvalho, who gave her closing remarks at the end of the ceremony, said: “It is wonderful to be able to shine a light on our students who are truly talented and are great role models, often going above and beyond to achieve great work, to help others and to be a beacon of positivity for BMet.
Having all of college students and staff celebrate collectively in a prestigious venue, made it all the more special.”
