Floristry students add colour to chemistry engineering awards

The Institute of Chemical Engineering (IChemE) asked the students to provide flower arrangements for their annual awards dinner which took place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.

10 students created 50 table arrangements to a particular brief. Following the event, the arrangements were given to guests and/or donated to charity.

“The students were excited to assist at a prestigious event and received lots of positive feedback,” said BMet Lecturer, Clare Brant. “The IChemE set out guidelines for the arrangements, including the shape and colour schemes they wanted us to use. This provided the students with opportunities to plan in detail what the arrangement would consist of and how to make it as visually appealing as possible.”

The students created the table pieces over two days from The Study Centre at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. They are currently on a Level 2 Floristry Diploma course, which involves studying a wide range of floral designs, along with maintenance of floral materials, floral display and event decorating.

“The course is an excellent grounding for students to gain knowledge of different floral materials and floral designs, including those for corporate events,”continued Clare Brant. “Providing table settings for this award evening also provided a real insight into the career directions the students can follow after their studies.”
