Erdinc’s on track to fulfilling a successful rail career with The Crown Group through BMet
Erdinc’s journey to establishing his dream of becoming a rail track maintenance engineer began when he came to BMet’s James Watt College and he is now enjoying a rewarding career with The Crown Group.
After making his mark in his home country of Turkey within the Automotive Engineering and Service Industry, Erdinc decided to seek an opportunity in the UK, where he could reactivate his technical career.
Discovering BMet’s Rail Track Maintenance course was a huge turning point and perfect fit for Erdinc, who embarked on the 7-week course in July 2023.
The popular course enables students to obtain a recognised Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Rail Track Maintenance and Safety Critical Certificates, which prepares individuals to carry out vital skills to maintain the railway Infrastructure.
Module units include:
- Undertake Routine Maintenance of the Permanent Way
- Undertake Replacement of Permanent Way Assets and Components
- Restore Plain Line Track Geometry to Operational Condition Assets
- Restore Switches and Crossings to Operational Condition
- Reinstate the Work Area after Permanent Way Engineering Activities
Speaking of the opportunity Erdinc said: “I was so happy to find out about this course at BMet, as not only did it enable me to use my transferable skills developed as a Mechanical Engineer in Turkey, but it also helped me to learn the invaluable skills, behaviours and attitudes that are fundamental for a rewarding career in the Railway Sector.
“The course is specially designed to ensure that learners obtain the vital knowledge and skills needed to carry out maintenance work to the railway tracks. This is important to me and I am delighted to play a part in safeguarding people, as they travel across the country by rail.”
During his course, Erdinc, obtained valuable experience with BMet subject specialised rail tutors. On successful completion of his course, he obtained a sponsorship with The Crown Group.
Erdinct said: “I’m in a very dynamic role. In each shift, I am improving my current abilities and learning new information about rail track maintenance engineering principles. I use a variety of different tools and equipment. I have made new friends and work across the country doing a job I love and most importantly, I am creating plenty of happy memories.
“I’m so grateful to the BMet Rail Department and the Crown group for this opportunity. They are like my second family.”
Erdinc invites individuals from all ages to be a part of this programme, which will be a gateway for them to initiate their career in the railway industry and contribute to the Network Rail “Everyone Home Safe Every Day” initiative.
